BAM!
You dropped your ipod.
And not on the sofa, or someone's beer belly.
It happens all the time, no biggie...
....??!!!
This time, the ipod FROZE.
To reset/unfreeze ipod:
1. Try toggling the Hold switch on and off.
2. If that doesn't work, press and hold the menu and select buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears (usually less than 10 seconds).
3. The main screen should appear soon after.
If you have a Red "X" appearing on the screen...
The iPod must be put into Disk Mode and then restored.
To restore ipod:
1. Reset the iPod (as above)
2. When Apple logo appears, immediately press and hold select and play button until the Disk Mode screen appears.
3. Connect iPod to computer and start iTunes.
4. Under iPod summary tab click "Restore".
5. iPod should be restored to factory settings.
If you cannot force the iPod into Disk Mode...
You can only keep trying*, send it for repair, or get a new one (boooo...).
If your iPod produces a 'clicking' sound, aka the 'click of doom',
you can still try (with a lot less hope) to restore* it.
Just bear in mind, it's not named the CLICK OF DOOM for nothing.
*In your vain efforts for nothing short of a miracle, you might have better chances slamming your iPod onto the floor again in a bid to bring it back to life.
Some claimed it works.
What more can a dead iPod have to lose?
